Coffee with the Chief provides residents an opportunity to personally meet with Chief of Police, James Black, and other Police Department staff in a friendly, casual, and informal setting. Residents learn about current crime-related topics and have a chance to discuss other community interest topics. Coffee with the Chief occurs on a quarterly basis. The events, held at Crystal Lake's City Hall, are typically an hour in length.

The upcoming topic of Coffee with the Chief on December 3rd is: New Marijuana Law. This segment will be presented by State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally. Illinois has become the 11th state to legalize recreational marijuana for adult use. Consumers will be able to buy marijuana for recreational use from licensed sellers on January 1, 2020.
