Current Project Update

  •  July 17, 2019: Underground signal work continues. The median on Route 14 was removed and the curb and gutter poured. The contractor anticipates completing pavement removals on July 22. Existing structures within the pavement will need to be adjusted including a large one for the traffic signal in the westbound left turn lane on Route 14. This lane will be closed to traffic starting around July 24 for 3-5 days. 
  • July 10: 2019: Underground signal, concrete, and widening work continues. The contractor anticipates working on the median along Route 14 the week of July 22. 

Project Description

The intersection improvement of Route 14 and Virginia Road includes an addition of a second left-turn lane on Virginia Road, an addition of an eastbound right-turn lane on Route 14, an upgrade to traffic signal equipment, pedestrian accommodations, and bike lane striping along Virginia Road to Berkshire Lane.

The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) awarded the City $1.4 million in federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality funding. The Illinois Department of Transportation and McHenry County will also be financial partners.
