Current Project Update
- May 15, 2019: Paving work was completed along Virginia Road and the southeast corner. The project will now be on hold for a few weeks due to IDOT approvals and material deliveries.
- May 8, 2019: Work along Virginia Road and the southeast corner continue with paving of the first level of asphalt anticipated the week of May 13.
- May 1, 2019: Removals of the permanent traffic signal continue and work along Virginia Road and the southeast corner.
- April 25, 2019: The temporary traffic signal was turned on April 24. Curb and median removals occurred along Virginia Road and at the southeast corner of the intersection. Removal of the permanent traffic signal will commence next along with continued work along Virginia Road and the southeast corner.
The intersection improvement of Route 14 and Virginia Road includes an addition of a second left-turn lane on Virginia Road, an addition of an eastbound right-turn lane on Route 14, an upgrade to traffic signal equipment, pedestrian accommodations, and bike lane striping along Virginia Road to Berkshire Lane.
The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) awarded the City $1.4 million in federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality funding. The Illinois Department of Transportation and McHenry County will also be financial partners.
