Lake Loop Trail Progress

Three Oaks Recreation Area is excited to share that the lake loop trail project is underway. The lake loop trail will be approximately 3.4 miles long and will allow guests to walk around the entire lake. The project kicked off in 2025 and is anticipated to be complete in 2026. Follow the storybook down below and check back in for additional updates.

Important Notice

While we understand that people are excited to use the expanding lake loop trail, please be reminded that the trail is not yet open. Construction is still ongoing and will be through 2025. For your safety, please stay off of any unfinished trails. Signs will be posted throughout the park letting visitors know when the trail has opened.

 Project Update

  •  July 14, 2025: Segment 1 (east side of Three Oaks Lake), is substantially complete and open for use to by the public. This portion of the trail does not go around the lake or connect to any other sections at this time. The contractor will continue to work on grading and drainage work with the other segments. 

  • June 16, 2025: The Contractor is nearing substantial completion for Segment 1 of the trail (east side of the lake). Remaining work includes finalizing the safety railing and seeding in the topsoil areas. Contractor will begin preliminary grading work on remaining segments the week of June 23rd. 
     
  • April 21: The contractor has a majority of Segment 1 to the appropriate sub-grade and is completing the installation of stone rip-rap and topsoil along the slopes. In the coming weeks, the contractor will begin placing the aggregate trail base and surfaces.  

  • March 13, 2025: The City's contractor is working on the trail shelf for Segment 1 (adjacent to Pingree Road). Now that the weather is warming up, the contractor expects to continue work until the project is complete.

  • February 6, 2025: The first portion of the project will start at the end of the existing east trail (Segment 1). The grading process will be ongoing.

 Project Update

  • August 14, 2025: The aggregate base is mostly complete.
     
  • July 31, 2025: Grading and shaping is mostly complete. The contractor will be focusing on installation of fences over the next several weeks before starting on the stone base. 
     
  • July 24, 2025: The contractor continues grading and shaping of this segment. 
     
  • July 10, 2025: Segment 2 (parallel to Rakow Road) drainage work continues consisting of culverts and storm sewer work.

  • July 3, 2025: Rough grading of Segment 2 is nearly complete.

  • March 18, 2025: The grading process is anticipated to start later this spring.

  • February 6, 2025: Segment 3 of the project was completed in 2024. It will open to the public once the full trail is finished.

Segment 4 9-10-25 Update

Project Update 

  • September 11, 2025: Most of the trail surface is complete. The switchback portion of the trail has been seeded and erosion control blanket has been installed.
     
  • August 28, 2025: Most of the topsoil and safety railing for the trail has been installed.

  • August 14, 2025: The aggregate base is mostly complete.

  • July 31, 2025: Grading and shaping is mostly complete. The contractor will be focusing on installation of fences over the next several weeks before starting on the stone base.

  • July 24, 2025: The contractor continues grading and shaping of this segment.

  • February 6, 2025: Segment 4 will include a switchback bringing guests from the lake up to the top of the hill. This will give guests a beautiful view of the lake. Grading work will take place later this year.

  • August 14, 2025: The aggregate base is mostly complete.

  • July 24, 2025: The contractor continues grading and shaping of this segment.
     
  • February 6, 2025: The western portion of the trail (Segment 5), will connect to the top of the switchback (Segment 4) and lead guests around to Main Street. Preparation for grading has been completed.

  • July 31, 2025: Grading and shaping is mostly complete. The contractor will be focusing on installation of fences over the next several weeks before starting on the stone base.
     
  • July 24, 2025: Segment 7 has been constructed up to the stone base.
     
  • July 10, 2025: Work is focusing on Segment 7 (parallel to the Main Street entrance road). The contractor is finishing the grading work along with starting to place the stone base.
