Crystal Vista South Study Area


  • November 7, 2018: Conflicts were found with an existing Nicor gas line which slightly modified the plan. The engineering is being finalized.
  • September 26, 2018: The design engineering is being finalized.
  • June 13, 2018: Baxter and Woodman will be surveying the area on June 15. Residents have been provided a letter notifying them of this work.  
  • June 4, 2018: A kick-off meeting was held with the design consultant for the new storm sewer installation.  
  • June 1, 2018: Baxter and Wooodman has been selected to complete the design for the installation of a new storm sewer for the Gardina Vista depressional area.  
  • February 8, 2018: City staff met with residents of all the Crystal Vista Areas for a final check-in. View the presentation slides.
  • January 22, 2018: Letters were mailed to all the residents in the area inviting them to the open house.  
  • September 12, 2017: City staff met with residents in the study area. Meeting minutes are available here. 
  • August 1, 2017: Letters will be mailed to all residents in the study area inviting them to the open house.
  • July 18, 2017: City Council presentation to review the stakeholder engagement process to review and refine improvements to reduce the risk of flooding.
  • June/July 2017: City experienced successive and excessive rain events leading to the total rainfall for June and July of almost 20 inches, over double the normal average.
  • Summer 2016: Survey of the two main depressional areas was completed.
  • Winter 2013: City’s stormwater consultant completed a more detailed analysis to determine potential alternatives to provide an outlet for water ponding in the depressional areas.
  • March 2009: A flooding study was completed which helped determine the causes of the flooding and conceptual solutions. The study identified two depressional areas that hold water. Click here for a map showing the depressional areas.
  • August 2007 Successive rain events led to Crystal Lake receiving between 11 and 12 inches of rainfall which produced the highest lake level ever recorded and areas around the lake experienced significant flooding.
