Post Date:07/03/2019 1:47 PM

Crystal Lake, IL – At 1:05 pm, the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded to the report of a structure fire at 474 Windham Cove Drive. At 1:11 pm, the first arriving Crystal Lake Fire Rescue unit reported a fully involved townhome unit, with two other attached units on either side threatened by the fire. The first arriving Crystal Lake Fire Rescue unit determined that all three townhome units were evacuated. A request for mutual aid through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System was activated for a second alarm response. The alarm was upgraded to a third alarm for additional personnel due to weather conditions of heat and humidity. Fire crews worked to minimize extension into the two adjoining townhome units, while extinguishing the main body of fire.

The fire was deemed under control at 2:32 pm. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries to any firefighters or residents. The Crystal Lake Building Division deemed all three townhome units uninhabitable. The American Red Cross was assisting three occupants who did not have other housing available to them. Damage is estimated at $700,000.

Additional fire departments and support agencies from Algonquin/Lake in the Hills, Barrington / Countryside, Carpentersville, Cary, Fox River Grove, Harvard, Huntley, Lake Zurich, Marengo, McHenry County Emergency Management Agency, McHenry, Nunda Rural, The Salvation Army, Spring Grove, Wauconda, West Dundee, Woodstock, and Wonder Lake assisted during the incident.
