City of Crystal Lake to Begin Hydrant Flushing

Post Date:03/23/2009
NEWS RELEASE

Crystal Lake – The Crystal Lake Water Division will begin flushing fire hydrants throughout Crystal Lake on Monday, March 30, 2009. Conditions permitting, flushing will continue through early May. Fire hydrant flushing cleans out the City’s water distribution system and allows for inspection of hydrants. During flushing, water may become temporarily discolored due to material being removed from water mains. The water is safe to drink, but may stain clothes washed during hydrant flushing. Residents should try to limit water usage during this time, but if this is not possible, the City offers Rover, a chemical that can be used as a cleanser in laundry to remove iron stains, free of charge, should problems occur.

Hydrants in the areas listed below will be flushed according to the following schedule, conditions permitting:

March 30th – April 3rd: All areas North of Route 176 to include Bryn Mawr; Areas East of Terra Cotta/Pingree Road and North of Route 14.
