POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Police Department, staffed by a force of 62 full time sworn
police officers, provides residents with a high level of public
safety services. These services are based on a traditional law
enforcement function, but are enhanced with the development and
implementation of programs that both facilitate and address the
needs of the community.
To combat area
drug abuse, The Crystal Lake Police Department participates in the
North Central Narcotics Task Force, an undercover enforcement group.
Additionally, the Police Department provides personnel to the McHenry
County Major Investigation Assistance Team. The Police Department
also has officers assigned to the three area high schools. These
are just a few examples of the Police Department’s commitment
to a philosophy of developing partnerships with the community, while
providing services that include a regional approach.

FIRE DEPARTMENT
Crystal
Lake currently has the busiest Fire Department in McHenry County.
In
2005, the department ran over 5,700 calls for both Fire and Emergency
Medical Services. Currently the department serves the City of Crystal Lake and the Crystal Lake Rural
Fire Protection District. Our combined coverage area is approximately
45 square miles with an approximate population of 55,000 people.
We currently
operate 3 fire stations, which are operated on a 24/7 basis.
Currently,
the staffing level of the department is 59 full time personnel
(this includes 4 day time officers and 2 Administrative Personnel); we also supplement our staff
with
15 part time personnel. Crystal Lake and surrounding areas have
undergone extreme growth in the last 10 years. This has presented
the department and the City of Crystal Lake with unique challenges
that we will continue to try to meet for our citizens and visitors
to our community.
The department
offers both Fire and Emergency Medical Services. Included in these
services are dive rescue, vertical and a confined space team, hazardous
materials operations level personnel, public education, CPR classes
for the community.
Open
Burning: The City Code prohibits the open burning of any
trash or other material. Camp-fires and bon fires are also prohibited
unless a special permit is obtained from the Fire Department.
