Unified Development
Ordinance Update
The City of Crystal Lake is currently updating its various land development ordinances into one Unified Development Ordinance (UDO).
A UDO is more than a collection of chapters from the zoning, subdivision, sign and tree preservation ordinances. Rather, the goal of consolidating the various ordinances into a UDO is to provide:
- A single document rather than multiple, conflicting, ordinances.
- A uniform set of consistent definitions.
- Procedures that follow the normal sequences of development
- A coordinated system for development review and enforcement.
The process of consolidation of the ordinances will reveal inconsistencies and duplications that can be eliminated. The UDO will be a total regulatory package that is greater than the sum of its parts.
This website provides schedule information and updates as well as links to documents used and discussed throughout the process.
