Water Division

The Water Division currently is responsible for supplying potable water to over 39,000 of Crystal Lake’s residents. The average daily water production is 4.9 million gallons of water per day. Summer water use increases due to lawn sprinkling and other outdoor activities which can make the summer water demands peak to roughly 10 million gallons per day.

The water system consists of five water treatment plants, eleven wells, four elevated storage tanks, four ground storage tanks, 2,859 fire hydrants and auxiliary valves, over 175 miles of water main with 2,000 main valves, and over 1,400 b-boxes (water shut off valves).

The Water Division is responsible for the water production and distribution system which is necessary to provide residential, commercial, and industrial water users with safe, clean water that is available for domestic use and fire protection. This includes the operation, maintenance, and repairs of the water treatment plants, water storage tanks, and distribution system. This Division is also responsible for responding to customer service requests and performing monthly and final meter readings. The Water Division collects and analyzes water samples each day for chlorine, iron, fluoride, phosphate, and hardness. They also collect over 50 bacteriological water samples throughout the City each month. Crystal Lake’s water system continues to meet all Federal and State drinking water standards. Our Annual Water Quality Report gives a detailed report of the water system sample results.

In addition, the Water Division assists with the snow removal throughout the City in the winter months.
