Q: Can I just mail the City of Crystal Lake my resume to keep on file?
A:
No, the City of Crystal Lake is not able to accept resumes to keep on file. We only accept resumes in response to open, advertised positions.  Additionally, for most positions, a City of Crystal Lake application is needed in conjunction with a resume.
Q: Where can I pick up an application for employment with the City of Crystal Lake?
A:
You can pick up an application for employment at the City of Crystal Lake Municipal Complex located at 100 W. Woodstock Street in Crystal Lake.  We are open for business between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applications are also available for downloading and printing at www.crystallake.org.
Q: Can I submit my application online?
A:
No, unfortunately the City does not currently have the capability to transmit applications online. We do have an application you can download, complete and print (see the Employment Application section). Applications are accepted via mail, e-mail at hr@crystallake.org, fax at 815-356-3690 and in person at 100 W. Woodstock Street in Crystal Lake.
Q: How will I know the status of my application?
A:
The City of Crystal Lake notifies all applicants of their status whether or not they are selected for an interview. Applicants will be contacted either by phone or by mail to inform them of their status in a recruitment process. You can check the status of a recruitment process by checking the Employment Section of the City’s website.
Q: How often does the City of Crystal Lake hire Police Officers or Firefigher Paramedics?
A:
The City does not have set dates to hire Police Officers or Firefighter Paramedics. Decisions to hire are based on the number of current vacancies. When the decision is made to hire, the City utilizes an eligibility list from which to select candidates for hire. To be placed on an eligibility list, candidates must participate in and successfully complete a police or fire testing process. These processes include participation in a mandatory orientation session, a written exam and a physical agility test.
Q: How often does the City of Crystal Lake have job openings?
A:
As with any organization, the City advertises positions based on vacancies. The City updates its communication tools (Website, Job Posting Boards, etc) every week so you can be assured of the most up to date vacancy listings.
Q: How can I participate in a Police Testing Process?
A:
To be notified of the next Police Testing Process you can ask to have your name put on a mailing list maintained by the Human Resources Office. Once a testing process has been scheduled, you will be notified by mail and/or e-mail of the process requirements. To put your name on our mailing list, contact Human Resources either by phone or e-mail at hr@crystallake.org and let us know that you want to be on the Police Mailing List.
Q: How can I participate in a Firefighter Paramedic Testing Process?
A:
To be notified of the next Firefighter Paramedic Testing Process you can ask to have your name put on a mailing list maintained by the Human Resources Office. Once a testing process has been scheduled, you will be notified by mail and/or e-mail of the process requirements. To put your name on our mailing list, contact Human Resources either by phone or e-mail at hr@crystallake.org and let us know that you want to be on the Firefighter Paramedic Mailing List.
Q: Can I submit one application for multiple job openings?
A:
No, you must submit a separate application for each job for which you apply.
Q: Can I submit an application for a position that is not currently open?
A:
No, unfortunately the City of Crystal Lake is unable to accept applications for jobs that are not open and advertised.
Q: Where are the jobs for the City posted?
A:

A listing of our current jobs is posted on our website at www.crystallake.org, cable access Channel 17 and the bulletin board at the Municipal Center at 100 W. Woodstock Street in Crystal Lake.
