Letter from the desk of the EMS Coordinator

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department is proud to provide the finest ambulance service available in McHenry County. Our crews staff 4 ambulances daily, with 2 ambulances available in reserve. Each ambulance has a minimum of an EMT-P (emergency medical technician paramedic) and an EMT-B (emergency medical technician basic level). The equipment utilized in each MICU (Mobile intensive care unit) is state of the art, from the 12 lead technology utilized in the cardiac monitors, down to the pulse oximeters, that measure the amount of oxygen in a patient’s bloodstream.

Crystal Lake paramedics transport approximately 3,900 patients per year, with majority of the injuries relating to trauma from falls and accidents.

Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department personnel are the finest in the area and are consistently acquiring additional training and continuing education. The result of that training is evident in the patient care that we provide. 

The City of Crystal Lake bills for ambulance transport as City does not tax for ambulance service. The rates are based upon Medicare fee structures.
