City Sewer Ordinances
Per the Illinois Plumbing Code a Building Sewer is:
- “that part of the horizontal piping of a drainage system which extends from the end of the building drain, receives the discharge of the building drain and conveys it to a public sanitary sewer or private sewage disposal system. The building sewer commences five (5) feet outside the building foundation wall.”

Storm Water Management
The City's storm sewer is a vital piece of infrastructure that the City is dedicated to maintain. Preserving the quality and assuring the availability of storm water is a critical function of the Sewer Division.
The Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) program was created by the Division, under the direction of the EPA, to ensure that this valuable resource is maintained in the City. Information about the NPDES MS4 Program can be found here.
