The City of Crystal Lake's Traffic Safety Committee was formed to provide residents with a high level of customer service with regards to issues such as speeding, cut-through traffic, pedestrian safety, traffic control sign requests, and overall traffic safety. This committee utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to reviewing and responding to resident requests and is represented by staff from the City Manager's Office, Community Development, Public Works, Police Department and the Fire Prevention Bureau.
Reporting Traffic or Safety Concerns
To report traffic or safety related concerns, please submit a request through the Crystal Lake Citizen Support Center, call the Community Development Department at 815-356-3605, or send an email with your contact information and your concern to firstname.lastname@example.org.
When addressing traffic calming issues, the Traffic Safety Committee places a high priority on safety while balancing the fiscal responsibilities of the City for its taxpayers with the wishes of the affected property owners.
The City uses three standard measures of treatment accepted by the traffic engineering and public safety industry when addressing traffic calming requests - Education, Enforcement, and Engineering.
Neighborhood meetings, targeted police enforcement, and the potential for certain structural enhancement (low or high cost) are all considered during the traffic calming process.
