The permit process involves three main steps:
- plan review
Building staff will work with you at each stage of the project to ensure successful completion of your project. Please contact the Building Division at 815-356-3605 or firstname.lastname@example.org to see if your project needs a permit.
The Building Division has guides for several common projects to help with project planning and permit application. Permits are required for the installation or replacement of:
Building Permits Required (Residential and Commercial)
| Roofing (Residential), Roofing (Commercial) & Siding
| Fences (Residential)
| Pools (above-ground), Pools (in-ground), Pools (storable) & Spas
| Patios & Decks
| HVAC & Air Conditioning
| Water Heaters
Permits are not required for the repair of:
|Building Permits Not Required for the Repair (Residential and Commercial)
|Fence Repair - Repair or Replacement of up to 2 fence panels or 3 support posts
|Roof Repair - Repair or Replacement of up to an aggregate total 200 square feet of roofing material
|Siding Repair - Repair or Replacement of up to an aggregate total 200 square feet of siding material
The Division makes every attempt to process building permit applications as quickly as possible:
- Residential permit applications will be processed within 10 working days or less upon receipt of a complete submittal.
- Commercial and industrial permit reviews are given a time frame of 10-15 days to process the initial review upon receipt of a complete submittal.
