Crystal Lake Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Crash

On Sunday, September 24, 2017, at approximately 8:50pm, Crystal Lake Police and Fire/Rescue responded to the intersection of Virginia Road and Rakow Road for the report of a traffic crash.  Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered the operator of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle involved in the crash had sustained life-threatening injuries.  The injured operator, an adult male, received medical treatment on scene.  He was later transported to a local hospital.  Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The Crystal Lake Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene.  The initial police examination revealed a blue Ford Expedition, driven by a male teenager, traveling south on Virginia Road and turning left onto Rakow Road, struck the Harley-Davidson in the intersection.  The driver of the Ford Expedition, and four of his passengers, were not injured.

The traffic crash remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.  The name of the deceased is being withheld, pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

The intersection was closed for approximately two hours while accident investigators analyzed the scene.  Crystal Lake Park District Police assisted with traffic control.
