Special Storm Refuse Collection

Crystal Lake - The City of Crystal Lake has arranged a special refuse collection pickup to assist residents as they dispose of flood-damaged items.  The special collection will occur on Saturday, July 29th.   Residents are asked to have flood damaged refuse items at their curb by 7 AM on Saturday.  The Saturday collection will focus on City neighborhoods that have been particularly hard hit by recent flooding.  There is no additional cost to the residents for this collection.

In light of sporadic flood damage throughout the rest of the City, MDC will be collecting additional bulk items at no cost to the residents on their regular collection day during the week of July 31st, along with those refuse and recycling items that are typically collected.

The following items will be collected, at no cost to the residents:

Construction and Demolition Debris

·         Drywall

·         Furniture

·         Carpet (must be cut to 4’ lengths)

·         Mattresses

Household Garbage and Rubbish

·         Normal household trash that is typically collected on a resident’s regular pickup day.

As much as possible, MDC requests that the items be centralized on the curb and placed in containers or bundles.  This will speed the collection.  MDC will be making one trip through each impacted street, so residents are encouraged to have items placed on the curb by 7 AM on Saturday, July 29th, or on their regularly scheduled collection day.

The following items will not be collected during this special collection time.  Residents must contact MDC Environmental at 815-568-7274, or, to obtain a special collection of the following items, for a fee:

·         Large Appliances and White Goods (i.e. refrigerators, freezers, water heaters and washers/dryers)

·         Electronics (i.e., TV and computers)

·         Household hazardous waste (i.e. cleaning supplies, paints and batteries)

Residents with questions or concerns can contact the City at 815-459-2020, extension 3687.

A McHenry County Respite Center has been established at the Nunda Township Highway Department, located at 3510 Bay Road. The Red Cross will be at the Center on Monday (July 24, 2017) and Tuesday (July 25, 2017) from 9am-6pm daily.  Residents will find smiling faces ready to listen, food/snacks/coffee/flood recovery information, supplies and cleanup kits.

Nunda Township will also have clean-up kits available.  Please contact the Nunda Township Supervisors Office to schedule a pick-up at 815-459-4011.
